Abstract
The Human Toll of Vaccine?Preventable Diseases illustrates the profound personal and societal impacts of diseases that could be prevented through vaccination, using real stories from individuals in conflict?affected and underserved communities. Through the experiences of children and adults suffering from polio and tetanus due to lack of immunization, the article highlights how gaps in vaccine coverage contribute to lifelong disability, disrupted livelihoods, and wider social and economic hardship. Framed around World Immunization Week 2025's theme, Immunization for All is Humanly Possible, the blog argues for stronger immunization programs, data innovation, and equity?focused strategies. It discusses APHRC's involvement in initiatives such as the Countdown to 2030 Immunization Study and HPV?IMPACT study to enhance coverage measurement, inform policy, and improve access to vaccines across Africa.
