Unlocking collaboration and funding opportunities through the EAC Pandemic Preparedness Framework highlights its significance as a regional milestone for health security
Abstract
This publication examines the East African Community (EAC) Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR) Policy Framework as a major regional milestone for strengthening health security and fostering coordinated action across Partner States. It highlights how the framework provides a structured platform for cross-border collaboration, harmonized surveillance systems, and shared investment in pandemic preparedness, while also creating opportunities for mobilizing regional and international funding. The article emphasizes that the framework shifts pandemic preparedness from fragmented national responses to a more integrated, multi-country approach that supports joint planning, research, and resource mobilization. It also underscores the importance of partnerships among governments, research institutions, and development partners in operationalizing the framework, particularly in strengthening early warning systems, risk communication, and health system resilience across the region.
