The Know-Do Gap Among Intrapartum Care (IPC) Providers in The Dire Dawa Administration, Eastern Ethiopia.

Abstract

This study examines the knowledge practice gap (know do gap) among intrapartum care providers in Dire Dawa Administration, Eastern Ethiopia. Intrapartum care, which is medical support during labor from onset to 2 hours post-placenta delivery, is vital for maternal and newborn health. Quality care relies on healthcare providers' knowledge and practices, and deficiencies in either cause adverse outcomes. Data from the Fenot project (December 2020 May 2021) included nine health facilities, 84 providers, and 865 labor observations. A significant knowledge-practice gap was found among intrapartum care providers, with factors such as facility location, provider type, gender, experience, and dual roles contributing to this gap
